The one map that mattersBusan is not a city with a centre. It is a 40 km ribbon of separate towns wrapped around a coastline and cut apart by mountains — Haeundae to Gamcheon is about an hour each way, every time. The #1 planning mistake is booking the famous beach and then commuting daily to the postcard sights on the opposite side of the city. KTX from Seoul Station: about 2h35m, ₩59,800 (~$42) standard class, booking opens one month out. Flying, Gimhae (PUS) is the Busan airport — the new Gadeokdo airport doesn't open until 2035. How do I get around?
Four metro lines plus the Donghae Line, about ₩1,600–1,800 a ride on a T-money or Cashbee card. The city is too spread out to walk between areas — plan around the metro and the occasional taxi (flagfall ₩4,800). Every location on this site carries its line, station and exit: getting around.
When should I go?
October is the sharpest single answer: 22°C, dry, typhoon season effectively over, film festival energy. Late April–May is the runner-up. Avoid mid-July to August — jangma rain, typhoon peak, and 2026 just set an all-time heat record at 38.8°C. Month by month: best time to visit.
Where should I stay?
Gwangalli or Haeundae for a first trip (beach, drone show, restaurants), Seomyeon if you want the metro crossroads that halves every commute, Nampo for old Busan on foot. Pick one base and accept the commutes, or split deliberately — two nights east, one west. The full decision: where to stay.

Is Busan safe?
Yes — Busan's violent-crime risk is low even by Korean standards and solo travellers routinely call it one of the most relaxed big cities in Asia. The real risks are summer ones: jangma downpours, August heat and the odd typhoon. Watch the forecast, not your back.
When is the Gwangalli drone show?
Every Saturday night, year-round, free from Gwangalli Beach, with a new theme weekly. Showtimes shift by season between 19:00/21:00 and 20:00/22:00, and weather cancels late — check the exact current times: drone show schedule.
Do I need a K-ETA for Korea?
22 jurisdictions — including the US, UK, Canada and Australia — are waived through 31 December 2026, but everyone else still needs one, and every waived traveller must instead file a free e-Arrival Card within 72 hours of arrival.
