Haeundae?
Haeundae (해운대) is the name everyone books first, and for beach-led trips it earns it: Busan's biggest hotel stock at every price, the widest sand, the aquarium and Blueline Park in walking range, and the city's Michelin cluster up on Dalmaji Hill. The catch is geography — Gamcheon, Jagalchi and the whole west side sit about an hour away, each way, every time. Book it for the beach life; don't book it as a base for the postcard sights.

What it isHaeundae is Busan's international face: a wide arc of sand backed by high-rises, the beach that runs Korea's longest season — 26 June to 15 September in 2026, two weeks longer than every other beach in the city — and the district where the money landed. Busan X the Sky's 100th-floor deck (₩27,000 gate, ~$19, cheaper online), Shinsegae Centum City and Spa Land one stop away, and the Michelin 2026 list concentrated here: Mori and Fiotto in Haeundae proper, Palette up on Dalmaji Hill. The BTS June 2026 shows pushed foreign foot traffic here up +240% — and Haeundae was crowded before that.
The most-repeated criticism of Busan's beaches is the port: you are swimming in the water of Korea's largest export terminal. Water quality is monitored and the beaches pass, but if pristine water is the point of your trip, Busan's beaches are city beaches — treat them as scenery with swimming attached, not the other way round.
The honest downside is the map. Busan is not a city with a centre. It is a 40 km ribbon of separate towns wrapped around a coastline and cut apart by mountains — Haeundae to Gamcheon is about an hour each way, every time. The #1 planning mistake is booking the famous beach and then commuting daily to the postcard sights on the opposite side of the city. Haeundae sits at the far east end of that ribbon: 20 minutes to Gwangalli, about 40 to Seomyeon, an hour to Nampo and more to Gamcheon. If your saved-places list is mostly west-side — markets, painted villages, the cable car — you're booking a daily commute, not a base. Either accept it, or split the stay.

How do I get from Gimhae Airport to Haeundae?

When is Haeundae Beach open for swimming?

Is Haeundae walkable?

Can I see the drone show from Haeundae?

Donghae Line to OSIRIA Station, Exit 1, then bus 1001 or 139 — the under-published fast route — or a taxi straight up the coast.
